Medium or larger shields would be too heavy, but since metal shields of that size are probably too heavy at even half the weight, that's immaterial. Most normal glass window panes would also easily fit within the weight limit. Similarly, it's enough to make virtually any metal weapon. The more protective armors are made of of large pieces of metal that this spell would work on, including the plate armors (note that most armor in D&D is heavier than the real-world equivalents). Simply put, very few items would need more than 10 pounds (in steel equivalent weight) to create. Also the fact that the spell is known only on a particular shore apart from the Known World on a hollow planet in an alternate Prime Material Plane.
